アラスカ:2007年夏

天気が気になり夜中に目が覚める度に外の様子を見るが、幸いにも快晴である（夜中でも陽が差しているのが不思議な光景）。朝外に出てみると、多少ぬかるんでいるが昨日より遥かにましである。この調子で好天が続けば、午後には、昨日転倒した地点を越えても大丈夫だろうと期待する。

5台のバイクで北極点を目指す。記念撮影をしていると、引退した夫婦が来て、なんと旦那がチェロ演奏を始める。色々な人がいるものである。Eagle Plainsの宿に戻り休憩した時に、北極点到達記念証明書をもらう。

帰り道は良好で、ほとんど問題なく走りきる。しかし、僅か一日の違いで天国と地獄になるとは恐ろしい道である。最後の100キロ位の区間は雨が降った様子で多少ぬかるんでいてひやりとした。

ダート走行に慣れている連中なのであろうが、皆結構な速度で走る。フラットで直線区間は70マイル近くですっ飛んでいく。こちらは60マイルまでがせいぜい。しかも、こちらはダートタイヤを履いているのだが、、特に、ＤＲ６５０の叔父さんは後輪スリック状態のタイヤで走るのだから恐れ入ってしまった。

いずれにせよ、今回の経験を通じてＧＳアドベンチャーの扱い方が幾分はわかった。沼地を抜ける時は、スタンデイングだけではなく足を着きながらゆっくり走ることも（でも、足が着き難いのが問題なのだが）。フラットダートを走っている時の乗り心地は抜群で、舗装路走行時と大差が無い位である。

途中に2匹の小熊が道路上に出没する。カメラを出すのが遅れ、写真チャンスを逃す（一緒に走っていたライダーから写真の提供を受ける）。

昨日、スタンデイング走行を長時間した為か、今日になると膝がガクガクである。明日は、バイクの掃除と洗濯を兼ねた休養日としよう。

Worrying the weather (road) conditions, I checked the outside often over the night. It seemed fine with strange feeling of sunshine over night. During the morning walk, road conditions turned to be much better than yesterday and expectation on the better road conditions came out.

Riding up to the Arctic Circle with 4 riders and took memorable pictures. A tired couple arrived at the Arctic Circle and husband began cello performance. Stopping by Eagle Plains Lodge and receiving the certificate of reaching the Arctic Circle.

On the way of road was good with only some sections near the end with muddy due to spotted rainfall. Accompanied riders seemed to be experienced with dirt riding, particularly the one on DR 650 as his rear tire was almost "slick".

Through this experience, performance of GS adventure is being learnt and to be used for the next challenge of the Dalton Highway. Riding feeling on the flat dirt is perfect, almost same as the ride on sealed road.

There were two bears, cubs, on the road. Missing the chance to take picture due to camera being on the deep of the tankbag,,,,,,,

Continuous standing position of yesterday's tough ride, knees got really tired and tomorrow should be the rest day for bike washing..
